My platform

I am Joshua Garnes, a local business owner and resident here in Downtown Huntington. There are a lot of challenges business owners are faced with everyday just to simply conduct business within the city limits.  These are the same challenges that all job creators face when trying to bring jobs to our area. The multiple trips to City Hall to get paperwork, permits, inspections, etc. Frankly, it is no easy feat. Once you get passed the bureaucracy, the next challenges are to actually conduct business and we have then more hurdles. Visitors to the city having to deal with panhandlers, trash on the streets and an infrastructure where millions of dollars have been collected through user fees and yet, we still need road improvements and improved response times from emergency services in the event that something happens.  I am not writing to complain about what we are dealing with. I love this city and its people so I have decided to do something about it and I need your help!

I have filed to run for City Council in District 3 and I have a primary challenger as well as taking on the current incumbent in the general.
We all know what the City of Huntington is capable of and there is revenue that pours in to make improvements -  if it were to be used efficiently and as it is intended. 

My plan as a City Councilman is to work towards efficiency in government. We have to make it easy to bring and grow businesses within the city limits, not a chore. To be a good steward of the revenue that the city collects. And lastly to bring transparency with Open Checkbook so you can see exactly where every last dime is being spent. 

We have issues that need resolved immediately from the drug epidemic to cleaning the trash on the streets. All of these items can be addressed and should be addressed in a manner that brings us the most return on the investments that we make. People are depending everyday on the programs we have so we must make the best of them. 

We have had these challenges  long enough and I cannot stand on the sidelines and watch revenue being spent frivolously, and city hall having little to no accountability.

I can’t do this without your help. I can’t promise that the problems will be solved overnight, but I can commit to start working day one towards the solutions to them.
